Browser Extension

The IntentEmoji browser extension brings intentional emoji placement to every page you read and every text field you write in. Available for Chrome and Firefox.

Installation

Chrome

  1. Visit the Chrome Web Store listing
  2. Click "Add to Chrome"
  3. Pin the extension to your toolbar for quick access
  4. Click the extension icon and sign in with your IntentEmoji account

Firefox

  1. Visit the Firefox Add-ons listing
  2. Click "Add to Firefox"
  3. Grant the requested permissions
  4. Click the extension icon and sign in

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

Permission Why
Read page content Required for Read Mode to analyze emoji placement on pages you visit.
Modify page content Required for Read Mode overlay that shows enhancement suggestions inline.
Access text inputs Required for Compose Mode to enhance text as you type in form fields.
Storage Stores your preferences, cached results, and session data locally.

Privacy: The extension only sends text to the IntentEmoji API when you explicitly activate it. It does not track browsing history, collect analytics, or send data in the background. Text is processed and discarded. Nothing is stored on our servers.

Read Mode

Read Mode analyzes any web page and shows you how emoji is being used (or not used). It provides a visual overlay with placement analysis and suggestions.

How to Use

  1. Navigate to any web page
  2. Click the IntentEmoji extension icon in your toolbar
  3. Select "Read Mode" from the popup
  4. The page will display an analysis overlay

Read Mode is available on the Free plan.

Compose Mode

Compose Mode enhances your writing in real time as you type. It works in any text input on the web: email composers, chat windows, document editors, social media post fields, and CMS editors.

How to Use

  1. Click the IntentEmoji icon and select "Compose Mode"
  2. A small floating indicator appears in the bottom-right corner of active text fields
  3. Type normally. When you complete a sentence or paragraph, the extension suggests emoji placement.
  4. Press Tab to accept the suggestion, or keep typing to dismiss it
  5. Use Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+E (Mac) to enhance the entire text field at once

Note: Some platforms use custom rich text editors that may not be fully compatible. If Compose Mode does not detect a text field, use the keyboard shortcut to enhance selected text manually.

Compose Mode requires a Pro plan or standalone Compose Mode subscription ($4.99/month).

Settings Reference

Access all extension settings by clicking the IntentEmoji icon and selecting the gear icon, or by right-clicking the icon and choosing "Options".

General

Setting Description
API Key Your IntentEmoji API key. Stored locally, never sent to third parties.
Default Mode Which mode activates when you click the icon. Read, Compose, or Ask Every Time.
Theme Extension UI theme. Auto (match browser), Light, or Dark.
Keyboard shortcut Global shortcut to toggle the extension. Default: Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+E.

Cache

Setting Description
Enable cache Cache API responses locally to reduce requests and improve speed.
Cache TTL How long cached results are valid. Default: 1 hour.
Clear cache Button to clear all cached data immediately.

Privacy

Setting Description
Disabled sites URL patterns where the extension is completely disabled. Useful for banking or sensitive sites.
Incognito mode Whether the extension runs in incognito/private windows. Default: Off.
